Writing insightful comprehension responses and thoughtful personal reflections across curricular subjects with elementary students can be a painful process. From idea generation, to making connections and elaborating ideas with support, the question for teachers becomes how to design engaging learning opportunities that will develop all student’s writing confidence, independence, proficiency and enjoyment. In this session, discover how one grade 3 class transformed their writing experience by learning how to think like artists. Documentation will showcase how developing student capacity to communicate ideas through visual representation scaffolded with drawing-based thinking routines from Harvard’s Project Zero transferred into enhanced writing content for all learners.
