Are you looking for a way to actively engage your students and to effectively collaborate? Do you want your class to move past topic-based learning? In this session, Michelle will share how she has used PBL & Concept-based learning in an elementary setting. Using a conceptual lense, and drawing from STEAM, Makerspace, Design Thinking, Big Questions and Growth Mindset concepts, she will share a sample of one of her units, along with the critical thinking skills that her students are demonstrating through her approach. She will discuss both the celebrations and challenges of encouraging students to think more conceptually as they have become better innovators, collaborators, risk takers, and critical thinkers. As the new concept-based curriculum debuts, she will also touch on what she plans to do differently in the future. Leave feeling more prepared to move from teaching topics to teaching in a way that supports conceptual understanding.
