What is equine facilitated learning and wellness and how can we explore the implementation of this form of experiential skill building and development within our school programming?
Proposed areas of exploration for students through equine facilitated learning programs can include: assertiveness and compassion, dealing with feelings of anxiousness, teamwork and communication, leadership, accountability, asking for help and accepting feedback, celebrating success. Many of which are encompassed within 21st century competencies such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, and self-direct learning.
During this full day opportunity, we will be working with certified equine gestalt facilitators at Rafter U7 Ranch near Carstairs AB experiencing some of the activities that students would participate in to gain a better understanding of what equine facilitated learning is and can be. Time for group discussions surrounding the possible benefits and logistical implementation of this type of programming for RVS students will also be planned for each day.
No previous horse experience is necessary and participants will only experience horses in a way that is comfortable for them during these days.
